UPDATE: Revolv is paying off some customers for their trouble.

Bad news for those of you using the Revolv smart home automation solution: It’s shutting down, and there’s pretty much nothing you can do about it.

As of May 15, the Revolv service, owned by Google Alphabet’s Nest brand, will no longer be available, the company announced on its website. After that date, the Revolv app will no longer open, and the hub simply won’t work. As for why this is happening, here’s what Revolv’s Mike Soucie and Tim Enwall have to say:

“In 2014, we were bought by Nest and the technology we made became an integral part of the Works with Nest(Opens in a new window) platform,” the duo wrote on the company’s website. “Now Works with Nest is turning into something more secure, more useful and just flat-out better than anything Revolv created.

“We’re pouring all our energy into Works with Nest and are incredibly excited about what we’re making,” they continued. “Unfortunately, that means we can’t allocate resources to Revolv anymore and we have to shut down the service.”

The duo didn’t offer many other details, except to say that all Revolv data will be deleted after the service shuts down. And, don’t think a warranty will shield you from this.

“Our one-year warranty against defects in materials or workmanship has expired for all Revolv products,” Soucie and Enwall wrote.

Users are, of course, not thrilled with the news.

“That’s a pretty blatant ‘f**k you’ to every person who trusted in them and bought their hardware,” Revolv customer Arlo Gilbert wrote in a blog post(Opens in a new window). “They didn’t post this notice until long after Google had made the acquisition, so these are Google’s words under [Nest CEO] Tony Fadell’s direction. It is also worth pointing out that even though they have my email address, the only way a customer discovers this home IoT mutiny is to visit the Revolv web site.”

The news comes amidst reports(Opens in a new window) that Nest is “underperforming” at Google/Alphabet.
