Connected GE appliances are about to get a little smarter.
GE on Wednesday announced that its Wi-Fi-connected appliances—including refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, ranges, washers, and dryers—are now compatible with Google Home, meaning you’ll be able to control your appliances with just your voice.
You’ll need to pair the “OK Google” command with GE’s “Geneva Home” command to preheat your oven via voice. So say “OK Google, tell Geneva Home to preheat the oven to 350 degrees” or “OK Google, tell Geneva Home to set the oven timer for 10 minutes” or “OK Google, ask Geneva Home how many dishwasher pods are left.”
With this new integration, you can also use your voice to make hot water, turn on music, and check if your dishes or laundry are clean. To try it out, open the Google Home app, go to Devices > Services, then link your GE Appliances account.
The new feature comes after GE last year integrated its connected appliances with Amazon’s Alexa. Now, GE says it’s the first major manufacturer to integrate its full suite of appliances with the Google Assistant.
