In celebration of Computer Science Education Week, Apple and Code.org will again present Hour of Code workshops across the United States.

The nonprofit said it is joining forces with Cupertino to encourage folks of all ages to learn the basics of computer programming. It’s the second year that the Code.org and Apple have hosted such workshops.

On Dec. 11, folks can visit Apple Store retail locations across the country to participate in a free, one-hour introduction to coding.

“We’re thrilled to have Apple on board again this year, encouraging students around the world to explore the wonders of building technology,” Code.org co-founder Hadi Partovi said in a statement. “The Hour of Code, we hope, will continue to spark a creative fire that students might otherwise never discover.”

Code.org’s mission began early last year, when a short film encouraging kids to learn programming surpassed 5 million YouTube views in just two days. The viral video enlisted famous faces like Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, will.i.am, Jack Dorsey, and Chris Bosh.

Many of those big names returned for the inaugural 2013 Hour of Code initiative, which gathered more than 2.6 million participants, including Ashton Kutcher, Shakira, and President Barack Obama.

This year, everyday folks are invited to head over to their nearest Apple Store to sign up for an Hour of Code workshop. Visit the company website(Opens in a new window) to choose your state and shop, then pick “Hour of Code: Introduction to Programming for Kids” to register for a session.

If there are no available appointments, check out the Hour of Code page(Opens in a new window) for more events at nearby schools.

Cupertino is also hosting developers and engineers in select cities around the world, kicking off on Monday at the Ginza, Tokyo store. On Tuesday, Touchpress co-founder Theodore Gray will be speaking at Chicago’s North Michigan Avenue store, while Hopscotch creator Jocelyn Leavitt will be at New York’s SoHo location on Wednesday. Other featured events will take place in London, Berlin, and Osaka.

“We are proud to be a part of making computer science accessible to students of all ages around the world. Education is part of Apple’s DNA and we believe this is a great way to inspire kids to discover technology,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet software and services.

Last year, the Hour of Code reached 15 million users in five days. You can help Code.org reach 100 million in 2014.
