Bing’s People Autosuggest today got a boost with type-ahead options for brands, movies, albums, places, software, sports teams, animal species, and more.

When the search engine introduced its autosuggest feature in May(Opens in a new window), it provided a faster way to find the person you’re looking for, be it a celebrity, politician, athlete, or even a colleague.

Now, if you’re searching for the word “pitbull,” Bing will serve up thumbnails for the artist (a person) or the dog (a breed) — “very different things that just happen to have the same name,” Antonio Gulli, principal development manager for Bing, said in a blog post(Opens in a new window). “But Bing understands the difference and gives you the opportunity to select the right one.”

The Microsoft-backed search engine uses underlying technology called Satori, which recognizes the relationships between millions of people, places, and things, offering users a useful model of the digital and physical world.

For example, searching for “Harry Potter” will call up a variety of choices including the book series, the character, and a selection of movie titles, while typing in “Empire State Building” will give relevant information about the place, including facts, history, and ticketing details.

“We are constantly updating Bing to include more people, places and things so stay tuned for more in the coming months,” Gulli teased.

Bing recently updated its photo filtering options, as well, introducing the “Search by License” feature to help users find images with a Creative Commons license.

Meanwhile, Microsoft and Klout this month revealed a new system that allows Bing searches to officially contribute to users’ Klout scores. So, the more often your name is typed into the Bing search field, the bigger your online influence.
