Cloud-storage and collaboration service Box on Wednesday doubled its free personal plan from 5GB to 10GB of storage, and launched a brand-new starter plan specifically tailored for small businesses.
The new Starter plan, for teams of up to 10 users, offers 100GB of pooled storage with a 2GB file size limit for $5 per month per user. Box has already found success with customers like Discovery Communications, Procter & Gamble, and AutoTrader Group, and is now looking to make it easier for small businesses to adopt the cloud.
“We’re focused on removing any and all barriers to cloud adoption,” Aaron Levie, co-founder and CEO of Box, said in a statement(Opens in a new window). “More than ever before, the economy today is driven by information and collaboration. Whether you’re a global corporation, a small business, or a freelancer, the key to competing is being able to securely share, manage and access your content anywhere, on any device. These new plans make the cloud more accessible than ever before.”
In a separate blog post(Opens in a new window), Levie said that this is the biggest change Box has made to its plans since 2010.
At this point, more than 20 million people and 180,000 businesses use Box to store and share content in the cloud, the company said. Besides the personal and starter plans, Box also has a business plan offering 1000GB of storage for $15 per user per month, an enterprise plan with unlimited storage for $35 per user per month, and an elite plan, which includes the enterprise plan plus other perks like high-level box support.
“We’re incredibly excited by the shift toward cloud, and want to ensure every professional and businesses of all sizes can take advantage of this transformation,” Levie said.
Meanwhile, Box earlier this month updated its Android app with a number of fresh features including a new left-swipe navigation drawer, revamped update feed, and resizable home screen widget. Box also this month revealed a new education initiative to help facilitate better sharing to create more modern classrooms.
