Opera Mini is celebrating 10 years with a data-saving treat. Those running the Android-based browser can now choose between two compression modes: high and extreme.

Opera Mini uses compression technology to reduce the amount of data required to load a webpage, which is especially useful for those on basic phones or slow, congested networks. Today’s update, however, adds the “high” option for those who aren’t quite ready for extreme.

With the “high” compression mode, you can save up to 50 percent of bandwidth without sacrificing image size and integrity. Opera promises fewer broken sites, whether you’re running on a 3G, 4G, or Wi-Fi network. It also allows for video playback, according to Engadget(Opens in a new window).

Those who don’t like change can stick with the original setup, now dubbed “extreme.” With familiar savings of up to 90 percent and speedy service, extreme mode is recommended for anyone working with a bad network connection.
