While most people like to keep their personal and business lives separate, that can be a little irritating when it comes to Dropbox accounts.
In November, the cloud storage service announced plans to let users access their personal and business files without having to switch between two accounts. And it appears that’s finally coming to fruition next month, according to The Verge(Opens in a new window).
A Dropbox spokeswoman confirmed that Dropbox has notified business users that they will soon be able to access personal and work accounts without changing logins. “Yesterday we emailed many of our business customers to follow up on the features we unveiled at our launch of the all-new Dropbox for Business last November,” she said.
More details are expected at an April 9 press event. But Dropbox previewed the option in November, saying it would roll out to Dropbox for Business customers that month. But it will apparently not reach customers for another few weeks.
“This’ll give you a personal Dropbox and a work Dropbox on all of your devices so you’ll never have to choose between them,” Dropbox said last year. “It’ll be like having your house keys and your work keycard on the same keychain.”
Each account, however, will have its own password, contacts, settings, and files.
Dropbox has been available to businesses since 2011, via Dropbox for Teams, but that was rebranded as Dropbox for Business in April. The service, which comes with a 14-day free trial, costs $15 per user per month, or $795 per year; hang on long enough, and the price drops to $125 per user per year after five years. Personal Dropbox users get 2GB of space for free.
Meanwhile, online storage plans are getting cheaper by the minute: Last week, Google announced it is slashing prices of Drive monthly plans. The 100GB plan, previously $4.99 per month, is now just $1.99. Those who need a bit more space can get the 1TB plan, formerly $49.99, for only $9.99.
Competitor Box gives away a gratis 10GB, then charges $5 per month for 100GB.
