Old media, meet new media. A number of MS-DOS games housed in the Internet Archive are now playable within Twitter.
Just visit the Archive’s MS-DOS library(Opens in a new window), pick an interesting title, then paste the URL into a tweet. You and your followers will immediately be able to play classics like Lemmings, Donkey Kong, and Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
The Internet Archive in December 2013 posted an array of browser-based titles built for five consoles released in the 1970s and ’80s, including two Atari machines. Another 900 classic arcade gamesmost available to play onlinehit the Archive in November.

Everything from “bronze-age” titles, with black-and-white screens and simple sounds, to large-scale games boasting digitized voices, images, and music are awaiting your keyboard commands.
But some games are more fun to play with friends, so why not share the joy with Twitter followers? You’ll need to be viewing the tweet from a browser to play; the feature does not yet appear to be compatible with mobile phones or tablets.
Neither Twitter nor the Internet Archive immediately responded to PCMag’s request for comment.
In other classic gaming news, New York’s The Strong museum this week announced the 15 finalists duking it out for a place in the new World Video Game Hall of Fame. Famous titles like Angry Birds, World of Warcraft, The Sims, Sonic the Hedgehog, Pac-Man, Super Mario Bros., Pong, and Space Invaders made the cut, but you’ll have to wait until June 4 to find out who will be included in the inaugural class.
