Google is getting into the New Year’s Eve spirit today with a new homepage doodle bidding farewell to 2013 and making way for the year to come.
The animation shows colorful 2013 digits bopping the night away on a flashing dance floor under a rotating disco ball, which makes up the second letter “o” in the Google logo. While the 2013 numbers get their groove on, an eager number “4” waits on the sidelines for its turn in the spotlight.
“We’re getting the party started on our homepage. Have a safe and happy New Year!” Google tweeted(Opens in a new window) Tuesday.
Clicking on Google’s final doodle of the year will take you to a search results page offering information on New Year’s Eve festivities and news from around the world. Underneath the doodle, Google has added a link on its homepage to its annual Zeitgeist summary(Opens in a new window), showcasing what its users searched for in 2013.
Google’s Zeitgeist drills down on events, people, and brands, as well as oddly specific categories like famous Internet animals (Grumpy Cat wins this race). The Web giant also broke out the top workout and exercise searches(Opens in a new window) of the year, which could provide some inspiration if you’re looking to turn over a new healthy leaf in 2014.
Meanwhile, Google has kept visitors entertained throughout the year with homepage doodles celebrating everything from the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who to the 66th anniversary of the Roswell UFO incident.
