Google is beefing up its Hangouts video chat feature for business users.

For starters, Hangouts is now covered under the same Terms of Service as other Google Apps for Business products like Gmail and Drive, meaning you’ll get 24-7 phone support and a 99.9 percent uptime guarantee, the Web giant announced Wednesday.

In addition, business users no longer need a Google+ profile to start a Hangout. Starting today, any Google Apps customer can start an HD video meeting with up to 15 participants from a computer or Chromebox device with Chromebox for meetings. Soon, you’ll also be able to do so from your mobile phone or tablet.

“Spontaneous one-on-one brainstorms, monthly company-wide meetings, or connecting two offices via a continuous video stream are just some ways customers like Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Kaplan, and Eventbrite have used Hangouts and Chromebox for meetings,” Clay Bavor, vice president of product management for Google Apps, wrote in a blog post(Opens in a new window). “And soon, even more teams across the world will be able to get simple and affordable video meetings.”

In the coming weeks, Google plans to expand Chromebox for meetings to the U.K. and Japan in addition to the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

You’ll also soon be able to connect two displays to one Chromebox for meetings device to see your audience and a project presentation at the same time. Google is also planning to integrate Hangouts with its Apps Vault by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Google is also partnering with a few new providers, including Blue Jeans and InterCall, to let you meet with teams using these systems. Blue Jeans will let those on traditional H.323 or SIP-based videoconferencing systems join video meetings, while those on InterCall can join a chat through their audio-conference bridge.
