Remember RealNetworks? The company that made a name for itself with its RealPlayer video and music player now wants to help organize your photos and videos.

RealTimes(Opens in a new window) is billed as a faster, easier way to get the most out of your personal content. The app automatically picks the best moments from your camera roll to create a RealTimes Story video.

The clip can be edited—rearrange footage and photos, change the duration, add filters and soundtracks—before you share them with family and friends.

The service is geared toward parents who constantly document their kids and don’t have time to peruse a full memory card.

“As a busy parent myself, I know firsthand how time-consuming it is to manage and sort through the massive number of photos and videos I take, not to mention trying to share them in a compelling way,” RealNetworks CEO Rob Glaser said in a statement. “RealTimes automatically does the hard work by instantly creating professional-quality RealTime Stories that are much more enjoyable to watch and easy to share.”

Download the app for free on Android phones and tablets(Opens in a new window), iPhone and iPad(Opens in a new window), Windows PC, Roku TV player, and Chromecast. It will launch soon on Mac, Amazon Fire Phone, Amazon Fire TV, Amazon Kindle Fire, and Xbox One.

The service comes with 2GB of free cloud storage, plus an additional 5GB for those users who enable Auto Upload. RealTimes also offers two subscription plans—a $4.99-per-month Premium Plan for an additional 25GB of storage, and a $9.99-per-month Unlimited Plan.

Users can also opt for the in-app $0.99 purchase, which allows you to create a RealTimes Story longer than the traditional 30 seconds.

RealNetworks has been struggling to find its way in recent years. It stumbled during the economic downturn before facing off in court against Hollywood studios over its RealDVD service, a battle it lost in late 2009.

More recently, it returned with RealPlayer Cloud, which lets users move, watch, save, and share videos across any device, without the hassle of converting files or plugging in wires. That now falls under the RealTimes umbrella.

Last year, meanwhile, it launched a new app in partnership with T-Mobile that lets you customize your callers’ ring tone experience by assigning different songs for different people.
