Google wants to help you stay informed and safe in the event of an earthquake.

The Web giant on Thursday announced(Opens in a new window) it is bringing earthquake information right to its search results page. Now, if you feel the effects of a quake, you can can ask Google about the disaster, like you probably would anyway, but get the information you’re looking for even quicker.

Just search for “earthquake,” “earthquake near me,” or something similar, and Google will offer a brief summary of the quake right at the top of the search results page — no clicking necessary. The information will include a summary of the size of the quake, a map of affected areas, and tips to safely navigate the aftermath.

In a blog post(Opens in a new window) announcing the new feature, Google Software Engineer Chris Keitel said in the aftermath of a quake, people often want to know how close they were to the epicenter. The map will give you this information — showing the areas that shook with various intensities.

Google will also show tips on what to do next, and how to stay safe during potential aftershocks. In the hours and days after the event, Google will show information about other recent earthquakes so you can confirm whether you’re feeling aftershocks.

“We hope that by displaying this result directly in Search, people will have fast and easy access to the information they need to stay safe in the face of an earthquake,” Keitel wrote.

Meanwhile, Google also this week added more song lyrics to its search results. The Web giant partnered with LyricFind, the world’s largest lyric-licensing service, to add lyrics from more than 4,000 publishers to its search results and Google Play Music.
