Topping tech headlines on Thursday, a beta version of Apple’s newest operating system – Yosemite – is now available for testing.
Access opened yesterday, but Cupertino will only grant passes to the first 1 million people who request them, so act fast to be assured a place in line. Here’s how to get it. Note that not all the features that Apple showed off during WWDC will be available in the beta “since the beta software is unfinished.” For more of what to expect when Yosemite launches in the fall, check out 20 Cool New Things in Apple OS X Yosemite.
Meanwhile, digital comic book distributor Comixology has a major new deal sweetener for comic lovers. Customers can now copy and share DRM-free content and store it on their devices permanently. Comixology, acquired by Amazon in April, announced the new offering Thursday at a Comic-Con International panel in San Diego. For more, check out PCMag’s Comic-Con page.
In other news, Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo met with European data protection regulators yesterday in an effort to sort out the recent “right to be forgotten” ruling. One topic of conversation was reportedly about the fact that results are only censored on European versions of search engines, like Google.co.uk. So EU Web users can simply go to Google.com for full results, which some argue defeats the purpose of the ruling.
