Real dogs are all well and good, and they might teach kids about responsibility or whatever, but how about a loving dog that learns about their young owners while teaching them too? Scout, the green boy puppy, and Violet, the purple girl puppy, are designed for babies between 6 and 36 months in the middle of their crucial learning period. The 15 educational games are activated by cuddling up against various parts of the toy. For example, pressing the heart starts an exercise on emotion words while the lights on the collar are used for color lessons. Other lessons include reading with the packed-in storybooks, number training and daily routine practice designed to “help children develop a sense of time and sequence.”
By connecting Scout or Violet to a computer with an internet connection, parents can also customize them for their children. Scout and Violet can be programmed to learn a child’s name, favorite food, favorite color, favorite animal and more. The toys come loaded with eight songs and lullabies that can be played by pressing their paws, but once connected parents choose between over 40 more tracks to download. With songs about Spanish and French, these sing-a-longs can also help with foreign language learning skills. Parents can extend Scout and Violet’s teaching capabilities even further with the 10 printable activities and by syncing the toys with the LeapFrog Learning Path software for “customized learning insights.”
The packaging weighs 1.57 pounds while the huggable, interactive plush toys themselves have dimensions of 10 x 5.3 x 9.5 inches. Read With Me Scout and Read With Me Violet run on 3 AA batteries, which are not included, and are sold separately.
