Sure, your cat seems sweet and lovableuntil it shatters your favorite glass vase or pushes the alphabetized row of books off the shelf. But the next time your fur ball misbehaves, step into her paws for a couple of minutes with the new Catlateral Damage video game(Opens in a new window).
The first-person simulator puts players inside the mind of a feline, whose only goal is to leave a path of grand destruction through their owner’s home.
“Feel what it’s like to be a mischievous cat and show your human who’s boss by eradicating his material belongings,” developer Chris Chung wrote in the game description.
Originally created in the fall for August’s 7DFPS gaming event, Catlateral Damage is still not ready for primetime, but has managed to catch on with gamers. Chung has been working since September to build the title up for an impending full release, which he promised will include additional levels and more objects at which to swat.
The goal: knock as much stuff onto the floor as your animated cat arms will allow in two minutes, using your keyboard arrows and a mouse. Each item, from DVDs to books to plants to a flat-screen TV, is worth varying amounts. Earn 100,000 points or more, and you win.
Seems simple enough. Except without practiced hand-eye coordination, it’s nearly impossible to reach enough items in the room to score enough points before running out of time.
Try it yourself(Opens in a new window): Alpha gameplay is available now for free on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
And, based on Chung’s website, the game will eventually hit the market in the U.S., Canada, U.K., and Europe, likely with a small fee. It is also expected to be released for Valve’s Steam platform.
